Why Your Remote Won’t Operate Your Garage Door

Are you tired of never knowing when your garage door will or will not open? Are you currently experiencing a problem with your garage door working sometimes but not all of the time? If so, we know how upsetting this can be for most people.

Lock Features

It might be necessary for you to disable your lock features if you press a button on the remote and the garage door doesn’t open. While this may be extremely frustrating, it isn’t the end of the world and is usually something that you can handle on your own. If you notice the automatic openers lights flickering when you are pressing the remote button, make sure the lock feature on the wall transmitter is on. This is the button that will disable any remote controls connected to the one that you are using. When you see a green light blinking on the wall unit, this lets you know that the lockout feature is turned on. You’ll need to hold down the lock button for at least 2 seconds in order to disable the feature.

Identifying Nearby RF Interference

It could be due to RF interference that your garage door will not open even after you have pressed the appropriate button on the remote. The interference keeps the signal from reaching the remote so that it will do what you need it to do. The only way to inspect the interference, you have to hold the remote a few feet away from the door and press the remote again. When the remote works when it is close to the motor then the RF interference is definitely why you were having trouble. The further away from the motor the more trouble you’ll experience. The things that can cause RF interference is security lights, alarm systems, electronic gaming consoles and motion detectors. When you have found the source of the RF interference, you’ll be able to go right back to using your remove again. It is possible that you may not be able to find the source of the interference and you’ll need to rely on the services of a qualified garage door technician. One way to remedy the problem that you are experiencing from RF interference is to have an antenna installed. This will usually provide you with the response that you need from your remote. If this still doesn’t get your remote working again then it’s time that you give us a call. Any of our garage door service technicians will be able to identify the source of your problem. They know the different reasons why someone’s garage door may be experiencing problems due to interference. This means they don’t waste time trying to figure it out. A Bad Battery

Even after moving closer to the motor of your garage door opener, your garage door remote still doesn’t work, this means that you may be experiencing more than one issue. You could have lost the link connected to your automatic garage door opener or your batteries might be dead. In some cases, there is a manufacturer defect or your logic board might need to be completely replaced. The issue that we find most often is a simple fix, your remote batteries need replacing. This is an easy fix. Simply by following the previous steps mentioned above, you’ll likely get your remote working again.

If you have changed your remote batteries and you’re still having trouble with your garage door opening then it’s time to move on the logic board. It could be that your remote has lost its programming link connected to the garage door opener. At this point, the remote will need to be programmed again. If you are having trouble reprogramming the remote then it may be necessary to remove any of the codes you have stored by holding down the learn key located on the motor. Do this for at least 6 seconds or until the learn light turns off. Once you’ve been able to successfully reprogram the remote, go ahead and try to use it again. If it works then you’ll likely have to reprogram any other remotes that you have. Unfortunately, many of our customers fail to program their other remotes and end up contacting us about the same problem again.

Logic Board

If your issue still isn’t resolved then it is possible that you have a bad logic board. In this case, an entirely new logic board may need to be installed. This is located inside the garage door opener, which means you’ll simply have to have the garage door opener replaced. We wouldn’t encourage you to do this yourself, as this is where the motor is located and this could be dangerous.

There are plenty of things that you can do yourself but in most cases, it is best that you leave the hard work to qualified professionals who have the experience needed.
